If you know you’re doing a great job, but you feel like you’re getting overlooked, excluded, or not on leadership’s radar enough, it could be the perfect time to get a plan in place to dial up your visibility and rise more. While there may be many things that are not controllable, there is one thing that is 100% under your control, and that’s the impact that YOU decide you want to have.

Likely, having greater impact means getting leadership on the bus with your ideas and seeing you as a confidant and trusted advisor. Let’s make sure you have a visibility plan in place now, so you can have as impactful a year as possible.

Here are a few questions that will help you take the first step — gaining personal clarity — to rise more in 2022. Deciding on the answers to these questions and taking action on them is a way of accepting where you’re being called for your highest sense of leadership. They will also help lay the foundation for a proud moment when the day comes that you exit your role.

Prior to going through these questions, grab a cup of tea, put your hand on your heart, and take three deep breaths with your eyes closed to clear your mind. Know it’s time for your voice to be heard more by leadership and for you to decide on the visibility you’ll have in 2022.

  1. What is the biggest initiative where I need leadership to get on the bus for the upcoming year?
  2. What is a big ask that I’m a little afraid/hesitant to bring up, but I know in my gut and in my heart that I must? When can I have that conversation?
  3. If I were to exit my role at the end of 2022, who do I need buy-in from, so I could you hand over the baton in a way that would make me proud and happy?
  4. What is my most important next step?

Clarity is the most important first step to rising more, but often the most elusive. When we have tried in the past without success, or if we are preparing to challenge leadership on a new way of thinking, it’s easy to back down or not to speak up.

But, just like an Olympian sets her sights on a seemingly impossible dream and plans with the end in mind as if that dream has been realized, your dream of even greater visibility and impact is no less important. Olympians decide what they want and visualize every detail of their success. They use all of their senses, down to the weight of the gold medal and how it will feel on the back of their neck when they bow their head to receive it.

What is your Olympics in terms of visibility and rising in your organization, and what would it feel like if you achieved it? Imagine what it would mean to you and those coming behind you.

If you’d like to have a private and confidential conversation and gain guidance on the rest of your plan for more visibility and to rise more in 2022, let’s chat!
